I wouldn't call the tirade racist, but it is rude to write such a letter to someone holding elected office.

Yeah, but the guy who wrote the letter is white and the other guy isn't. Doesn't that make it racist, for a white man to criticize a black man for only his views?

If the white guy were Republican and opposing gay "marriage," then yes, it would be. Liberals are pretty confused on this one, though. The politician not only is opposing gay "marriage" (supposedly), but he's also a minister, which means liberals would normally be 10 times as irate, but then he is also black, so they hesitate to condemn him.

I'd guess that in order to get Marion Berry to read your letter, rude or polite, you would probably have to enclose a rock of crack in the envelope.
