There was a dog I read about as a kid, Greyfriar's Bobby, who guarded the grave of his owner until the dog died. It was in England.

Dogs are amazing. I will always have one. I love my cat, who came into my life by accident, but probably won't replace her when she's gone. I'll be out looking for a puppy the day after Katie is gone. She's 14, but she's still living a good life, playing in the yard, chasing stray cats and squirrels, and trying to get the 16 year old cat to play with her.

I posted this story on my fb...I was amazed but not entirely surprised. There is no animal more devoted than a dog. German Shepherds are especially loyal.
