My afternoon entertainment at work today has been
listening to a relatively new American citizen from Russia trying to reason with two of our NRA-loving, gun-toting, Rush-spouting cubby mates.
NewAC: ... but the laws are there to protect us. Lawfully bought guns are finding their way into the hands of people who use them to kill people. There needs to be some regulation that is enforced nationwide.
NRA1: You know, nobody has ever been killed by legally owned guns. Drs. kill thousands of people a year and they aren't regulated like they want to regulate guns.
NRA2: That's why this is a free country.
NRA1: Yup, you're free to agree with me or I'll shoot you. Sounds like a plan to me.
NewAC: I came from a country whose govt believed that. Thankfully not all the people here feel like you do or America would be no better than Russia.
NRA1 and 2 changed the subject to the stock market.
These convos are a daily occurrence, but this is the first time I've heard my Russian friend speak up to them. I think even he's getting tired of hearing it. |

Guess Woodhead didn't get the memo...

Americans never give up your guns
28.12.2012
By Stanislav Mishin
These days, there are few things to admire about the socialist, bankrupt and culturally degenerating USA, but at least so far, one thing remains: the right to bear arms and use deadly force to defend one's self and possessions.
This will probably come as a total shock to most of my Western readers, but at one point, Russia was one of the most heavily armed societies on earth. This was, of course, when we were free under the Tsar. Weapons, from swords and spears to pistols, rifles and shotguns were everywhere, common items. People carried them concealed, they carried them holstered. Fighting knives were a prominent part of many traditional attires and those little tubes criss crossing on the costumes of Cossacks and various Caucasian peoples? Well those are bullet holders for rifles....
