A keyboard and mouse that can be popped into a dishwasher after they become grubby could be an answer to a prayer for workers everywhere.
It could also help to eradicate superbugs in hospitals across Britain.
The wireless devices were created by Seal Shield, an American health care company, who have presented them at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Silver Surf Keyboard and laser mouse can be put through the dishwasher. They have an integrated wrist rest with no wires to disconnect and no need to remove batteries for cleaning.
The keyboard also has silver ions embedded in the plastic. The makers claim this Silver Seal protection 'has been shown to safely inhibit microbial growth and reduce the spread of odor causing bacteria.'
A spokesman said: 'Regular cleaning of the Silver Surf keyboard in the sink or dishwasher can help prevent the spread of germs, viruses and bacteria, which are known to harbor on frequently touched surfaces.'
The company also offers washable TV remote controls. Prices for the keyboard start from $39.99 from sealshield.com or keyboardco.com for the UK.
Seal Shield Chief Executive Brad Whitchurch said all the products were 'completely impenetrable to water.'
The launch follows a recent study by consumer watchdog Which? found keyboards could be five times dirtier than the average toilet seat.
