Great News For Child Abusers. You Can Now Be Released If You “Change Genders”

Not all of the news coming out of Iowa revolves around next week’s caucuses, though you’ll probably wish it did in a moment. This particular story comes to us via the state Attorney General’s Office and it involves a former inmate of the Newton Correctional Facility. Joseph Matthew Smith, age 23, had been held there for several years because of “myriad sex crimes” against students at Midwest Christian Services. But now he’s been transferred to a residential treatment facility for transitional release.

Why? Because Joseph now goes by the name of Josie and is in the process of “transitioning” to become female. As such, he’s apparently no longer a danger to children. (Des Moines Register)

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office is no longer seeking the commitment of a former Midwest Christian Services student convicted of myriad sex crimes because the individual now identifies as a woman.

Court records show the state dismissed the application on Jan. 9. Attorney general spokesman Lynn Hicks wouldn’t comment on the reason for the dismissal other than to say “an offender’s hormone levels are an important part of substantiating an offender’s likelihood of recidivism.”

I think he shouldn't be released and that the rationale is really weak. I don't equate GLBTQ with pedophilia or sex offenses. Pedophilia can be hetero or homo or bi, but the underlying issue that makes it criminal and evil is the attraction to children. It's also a power and control thing. Sex offenders who force peers/adults to have sex are also committing crimes because of a compulsion that also is about violence, power and control. Offenders are responsible for their acts, unless they are literally children. This case presents a dangerous ideation for the GLBTQ community. If a child molester is no longer responsible for his acts because now he is transitioned to female, doesn't that equate to saying that being a transsexual made him do it? If I were a transsexual who was not into molesting children, I would find this to be very offensive reasoning.

I couldn't figure out in this case if he was a minor himself when he committed the crimes. Is he 23 now? Or was he 23 when he was prosecuted for the earlier crimes and then served "several years" after that? The article is not clear in it's wording. If he was 16 when it happened, he may have had one of those blended sentences and have met the criteria for parole under that reasoning. Whatever, I still wouldn't leave him/her alone with children.

Now wait a minute, we have been pushing for cutting the junk off of pedophiles for years, and it was called cruel and unusual punishment.
