“Andy Wyeth died in his sleep peacefully at 4:25 today,” said Phyllis Wyeth, the wife of Andrew’s son, Jamie.

He lived in Chadds Ford, Pa.

“It is the passing of an era of American art,” said Joyce Hill Stoner, a family friend and member of the Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Foundation for American Art.

James Duff, executive director of the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, , said, “One of the greatest artists in American history has died. Andrew Wyeth had a deep understanding of the human condition, which is reflected in his work with astounding fluency. He had everything.”
