What's new: Obama's ties to 'ethanol interests'
Some of the campaign and political news making headlines this morning:
• The New York Times -- Obama "closely linked" to ethanol interests: Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama "is running as a reformer who is seeking to reduce the influence of special interests. But like any other politician, he has powerful constituencies that help shape his views. And when it comes to domestic ethanol, almost all of which is made from corn, he also has advisers and prominent supporters with close ties to the industry at a time when energy policy is a point of sharp contrast between the parties and their presidential candidates."
• The Arizona Republic -- Sports team execs are signing up for McCain's team: "Sen. John McCain, as expected, has the home-field advantage when it comes to raising money in Arizona for his presidential bid. He also has the home-court and home-ice advantage. McCain, an avid sports fan, has received financial contributions and big-money pledges from executives and owners of the four Phoenix-area major sports teams, as well as owners and executives of teams from around the country."
• USA TODAY -- Obama leads, but many voters have doubts about him: "Democrat Barack Obama begins the presidential campaign with some overwhelming advantages over Republican John McCain, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, but voters also express doubts about the Illinois senator's experience and ability to handle the job of commander in chief. A 54% majority of those surveyed are concerned Obama lacks the experience to be an effective president. A similar number say he "may be too closely aligned with people who hold radical political views."
