In an extraordinary move, the Asheville City Council has apologized for the North Carolina city's historic role in slavery, discrimination and denial of basic liberties to Black residents and voted to provide reparations to them and their descendants.

The 7-0 vote came the night of July 14.

"Hundreds of years of Black blood spilled that basically fills the cup we drink from today," said Councilman Keith Young, one of two African American members of the body and the measure's chief proponent.

"It is simply not enough to remove statutes. Black people in this country are dealing with issues that are systemic in nature."

Unpopular opinion here, the USA was not built on or made wealthy by slaves, if anything they held us back. Whatever wealthy they added to the southern states via the cotton, sugar, or other large-scale agriculture was wiped out by the Civil War and fighting that war also wiped out a lot of Northern wealth, manpower, and talent, altogether amounting to a net loss.

    U.S. Constitution Article 3, Section 3, Paragraph 2:

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted
If "Corruption of Blood" cannot be attached to the most severe crime of Treason, how can it reasonably or logically applied to descendants of slave owners who were at the time engaged in a legal activity? Even less to people who only share racial identity with the majority of slave owners? What about descendants of Black slave owners? Are they going to be recipients of this or should they pay too? What about Black Americans who have no ancestors who were enslaved? What about descendants of whites who were enslaved?

I believe that a Supreme Court with a majority that respects the Constitution will strike down any such abomination of the Rule of Law.

    Yet another Democrat pandering LIE.

We should demand all our tax dollars used to pay for welfare be repaid. All personal property destroyed by looters and rioters should be repaid to the people who lost their businesses. I can think of a hell of a lot more that can be paid back to we the people that bore the burden of having less in our paychecks each month thanks to these pandering liberals called democrats. There won't be any repatriations ever paid to these morons and idiots.

In 2003, the Austin City Council spent a whole day to decree that they were against the invasion of Iraq. And then life went on...
Itís not a civil war until both sides show up.
