Even if they voted that Friday it would be 18 days before Election Day, with voting well underway. If Trump were to go on to lose, the Supreme Court's fundamental legitimacy would be dramatically compromised.

JUST IN: The Senate Judiciary Committee will begin confirmation hearings for President Trump’s nominee to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on October 12 and are expected to last 4 days, a source familiar tells NPR.

Barrett's willingness to go along with this speaks to her character and willingness to put personal ambition over national interests and the institutional stability of the court itself.

So...........if the Democrats don't get their way, the Supreme Court will lose it's legitimacy, and Amy Coney Barrett is obligated to not accept the nomination (which is the Democrats goal) because to do so means she "puts personal ambition over national interests and the institutional stability of the court itself".

So the Jack*sses arrogantly claim that the "national interests" are what they WANT and DEMAND.....so everyone including Barrett must go along with it.

And we're supposed to go along with it. LOL. Sure.

madaboutharry (33,863 posts) 1. Barrett is swept up in a bubble of excitement and ambition.

Accepting this nomination is testimony to her lack of judgement, her lack of patriotism, and a corrosive need for power.

No, that describes Democrats response to President Trump legitimately nominating her for the Supreme Court.

There is NOTHING they will not do to attempt to retain power.

    3. And THAT is the goal of a Dictatorial coup on a Democracy

"Supreme Court's fundamental legitimacy would be dramatically compromised"

The goal is to delegitamize the entire structure of our Democracy.

Ya can't have a successful takeover without destroying the entire gov't structure.
And that is what Trump has been doing since he rode down that elevator.
One chip at a time till it collapses.
    Pure projection.

As someone famously said, a President is President for four years, not three, with full constitutional authority all four years. If ACB is confirmed an Associate Justice by the Senate, Election Day 2020 and its outcome are irrelevant.

Not that I expected better reasoning from an NPR "journalist".

Articles like this are written with two objects in mind. Appease the base by telling them what they want to hear and convince fence-sitters that something with no factual basis is real.
Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
    he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.
