Maj just got the word, on Shep Smith show, scheduled to be announced tomorrow.

All combat brigades to be out in 16 months.

""The liberals all wanted another Viet Nam style 'victory' and now with this bird they have it !"

Real effect is immediate surrender of purpose. No commander is going to undertake any major mission knowing that, at the very longest, no US offensive military power will be in-country after next Spring, so why waste lives to gain something we soon will give away.

Offensive operations will stop. Brigades will go into a useless, purely defensive mode. It's over. Our POTUS surrendered. About 3000 Americans volunteered to pay the ultimate price in Iraq so we could be free. Obama just ensured those sacrifices will have no lasting meaning.

Bush prayed for every one of them and their souls. Obama just pissed on every one of their graves.

    The bastard.

Honestly, is anyone surprised? Seriously, him and Hillary were waring throughout the primaries as to who could get our troops out faster.

Interesting "All combat brigades", but no mention of the support brigades in Iraq. Which if memory serves is some where around 200k personal.

    A Responsible, Phased Withdrawal
Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 more than 7 years after the war began.

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel. They will not build permanent bases in Iraq, but will continue efforts to train and support the Iraqi security forces as long as Iraqi leaders move toward political reconciliation and away from sectarianism.
Yep, and how large will that force be?

The Iraqi's are about 'up to speed' and should be able to stabilize the place .We will no doubt leave most of the ordinance and materials in place so they ,the Iraqi's should be good for now and when Iran will tries to pull some crap but I guess its up to Iraq to defend themselves ,we did the tough part .

You know what pisses me off? If the withdraw goes well then the Magic Negro will take the credit and if things dont go so well take a guess who they are going to blame?

Here's the thing though: Obama isn't even the planner of this.

We've had in the works for a while now the plan to have all US troops off of Iraqi roads and out of Iraqi towns by July 2009...I knew about this half a year ago. Obama gave the 16 month timeframe because it wouldn't have mattered anyway because we've already come to an agreement to withdraw.

The war is mostly over. Major Combat Operations are way down, even from when I was here in 2006. Now, Apocalypse makes a great point; Obama says all "combat" units are out in 16 months....but said nothing about support units. We'll still maintain forces over here.

Honestly though, I see more KBR workers here on this base than military personnel. Pulling some of our guys out is the smart move.
