Report: CIA Chief in Algeria Probed Over Rape Allegations
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
A CIA station chief in Algeria is being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly drugging and raping Muslim women and making secret sex videos, ABC News reported.
The 41-year-old officer was sent home by the U.S. ambassador after two women alleged in September that he laced their drinks and assaulted them, ABC News quotes U.S. law enforcement sources.
"It has the potential to be quite explosive if it's not handled well by the United States government," Isobel Coleman, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, told ABC News. "This isn't the type of thing that's going to be easily pushed under the carpet."
The Justice Department has expanded its investigation to Egypt after more than a dozen videotapes of the officer engaged in sex acts with other women were discovered.
The CIA has not acknowledged the alleged investigation and will not provide the name of the CIA chief in question.
One of the station chief's alleged victims claimed she met him at a bar at the U.S. embassy and was assaulted after going back to his residence, ABC News reported.
The other alleged victim also said she was sexually assaulted at the CIA chief's residence in a separate incident."Because we're a great nation, our challenges seem complex; it will always be this way. But as long as we remember our first principals and believe in ourselves, the future will always be ours." -Reagan
