The bottom line is we need to expand domestic energy p[roduction. Solar, wind, nuclear, drill for oil, build refineries. Increase the supply of available energy and the cost of energy will come down.
I do disagree with Charlie about this:
And still some of you people sit on your padded posteriors with your heads stuck in the sand.

The same way we would starve China, or any other country. Stop buying their oil. Refuse to do business with any company that purchases Saudi oil. Or put import taxes on Saudi oil to stop the flow.
Their economy is heavily based on selling oil, and as the biggest buyer, we command significant respect in the field. Without oil sales, the economy of Saudi Arabia breaks. Without Saudi oil, our economy might suffer a small disruption. But if we ramp up domestic production while stopping Saudi imports, our economy won't suffer any ill effects.
Same thing with China, without the United States buying their products and sending them business, millions would be out of work. Without China selling us goods, American businesses would open shops in other countries and keep producing.
America is not subservient to other interests, we keep the global economy moving.

The Saudi Royal Family could care less - China and India will suck up as much as they can produce and the countries of the Persian Gulf will end up owning every major financial institution on the planet. On the subject of stopping China, we can’t (as I think I’ve spoken of previously), as we’re totally addicted to cheap, unnecessary crap from Wal-Mart and the other Big Box stores.
At Coretta Scott King's funeral in early 2006, Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert Kennedy, leaned over to him and whispered, "The torch is being passed to you." "A chill went up my spine," Obama told an aide. (Newsweek)
