Taxing Cigarette Smokers Butts Off. Stimulus Bill Burdens Poor and Middle Class

Paying for the S-CHIP will be up to smokers. Yes, a pack of cigarettes will be federally taxed $1.00. Small cigars $12.50 per 1,000 this year and $50 per 1,000 in 2015. Large cigars will be taxed .50 (8x the current tax). Roll your own is $24.00 more per 1 pound of tobacco. ROLL YOUR OWN!! The tubes for roll your own cigarettes will also be taxed substantially.
I am a roll your own smoker. I roll for my husband and for me. Why do we CHOOSE to roll our own?
Reason 1 was because factory cigarettes were too costly.
Reason 2 was because factory cigarettes are just vile and dripping with chemicals. The roll your own smokers notice the difference and to be honest, there is no way we can stand to smoke a factory cigarette now.
Reason 3 is because we were upset that the cigarette companies could provide a decent cigarette without the chemicals and won't. THEY chose to make a crappy product. Not our fault, don't like their product.
Enter cigarette companies. Cigarette companies are urging the HUGE tax on roll your own. Why? It will force smokers to go back to them. Right? WRONG!! I would rather smoke my lawn grass (which has no chemicals) than to go back to factory cigarettes.
Force these kinds of taxes on smokers and many will quit or try to. Enter pharmaceutical companies. They have just the gum, pill, patch or vaccine for smokers. See anything going on here folks?
Taxing the butts off of smokers has nothing to do with wanting people to stop smoking. It has a lot to do with paying back lobbyists. It has a lot to do with lining pockets with poor and middle class smokers' money. This does not belong in a stimulus package supposedly designed to create jobs. The businesses that sell roll your own products will be gone and so will their employees' jobs.
