Its no new idea that some have not confused society with government. Even now we have many who have or already are confusing the two as having no distinction at all. Yet the same as was more than two hundred years ago is the same as today, both have completely different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our sheer wickedness, pride and greed. The former promotes our happiness positively, while the latter negatively by restraining our vices.
Society encourages intercourse one with another, Government produces only distinctions. Society is the patron, and Government is the punisher. Society in every state is a blessing. Government even in its best state is but a necessary evil and in its worst state an intolerable one. When we suffer and or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, something we might expect in a country without government, our calamities are heightened by reflection that we have provided the very means by which we all suffer.
This is simply an interesting lesson in why Government is NOT the answer over our society. That Government is simply an oppressor to our own freedoms by restrictions and mandates. And yet through fear and ignorance we allow, and may even encourage the very institution to ruin us all as a free people.
