(CNN) – One of the most intense guessing games of President Obama’s new administration is finally over: the choice of first dog.

First Lady Michelle Obama told People magazine that her family has decided to adopt a Portuguese water dog, pointing to the breed’s medium-sized and good-natured reputation. The breed is also hypoallergenic — a must, given daughter Malia’s allergy to dogs.

Ted Kennedy has 2 Portuguese Water Dogs named Sunny and Splash.

I have always just loved that Teddy boy has a water dog named "SPLASH!", and the DUmmies don't even catch the irony.

You know what's nauseating about this is that it's all for show. It's like snobby brainless Hollywood bimbos having a child as a status symbol and then turning it over to a nanny 6 days a week. You're either a dog person or you're not. The Obama's are cat people if I've ever seen them.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. They seem like they'd have 1 or 2 cats, both with a kind of stuck-up attitude, you know how cats can act like that.

BTW, have you seen pics of water dogs? Maybe it's just me, but they look ugly as sh*t. What's wrong with a nice Boxer or Beagle or a Spaniel? I guess the Messiah would go with some off the wall uppidy Elite choice.

Better looking than a poodle IMHO.
Other dogs didn't make the cut because of one of the kid's allergies.


Oh and I resent that cat person comment. I will put my Maine Coons up against any yappy dog!:p

Hey, I was all for a Beagle. And I have a cat, but he isn't snooty. When workmen come to the house, he loves to follow them around and see what they are doing.
