    "I fine this interesting in that they used their quills wetted by their tongues to illustrate the colored text using Mercury based ink .From my time at school we installed a bank of newly designed scintillometers for some research and they all read offscale.

    The problem was traced to the building that was part of the old Waltham watch company.The floor had radium traces embedded in it and the scintillometers were sensitive enough to be saturated by it .

    The woman who made the watches painted the hands with radium so they glowed in the dark.They would wet the brush tip with their tongues and dip them into the radium paint and snap the excess to the floor and paint the dials.The incidence of death due to cancer of the mouth was sky high."
