Steve Goodman wrote that song. (He also wrote You Never Even Called Me By My Name for David Allen Coe.).........with the old man in the club car,
penny a point ain't no one keepin' score.
I like Arlo Guthrie's version of City of New Orleans best, but there are other good ones. Cool morning on the Mountain. 33 degrees right now. Should be in the seventies this afternoon. Nice.
I love the image of a group of men in the night playing cards to pass the time during a long train ride across America. I haven't played cards in years. I always enjoyed poker. Never played bridge. Couldn't tell you a thing about Spades or Hearts or games like that.
When I was a kid we played gin rummy or setback. It was usually a collection of uncles and cousins ranging in age for the sixties to 13 or14 (that would be me). I enjoyed the card games but i also learned a lot watching these men play the game, really play it, and talk and smoke and socialize during the contest.
Great memories.
TOTD: Card games. Or just games in general. What do you like to play?
