Powerful magnitude 6.8 quake strikes off Taiwan
TAPEI, Taiwan - Officials say a powerful earthquake has struck at the Pacific Ocean off southeastern Taiwan, but no damage or injuries have been reported. Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau says the magnitude 6.8 quake hit at around 9:57 a.m. on Sunday (0157 GMT Sunday). It was faintly felt in Taiwan.
The bureau says the epicenter was located at the Pacific Ocean about 140 miles (230 kilometers) south of the eastern island of Lanyu, which is about 180 miles (300 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Taipei.
The epicenter was as deep as 29 miles (46 kilometers) below the ocean surface.

Powerful Quake Ravages China, Killing Thousands

Powerful quake strikes Indonesia
JAKARTA, Indonesia -- A powerful earthquake shook buildings and caused panic on the densely-populated Indonesian island of Java, but there have been no reports of injuries and no tsunami alert. Shaken residents stand outside an apartment building in Kunigan, South Jakarta The quake, measured at magnitude 7.5 by the U.S. Geological Survey, struck shortly after midnight in a part of the sea dotted with oil rig platforms, Financial Times journalist John Aglionby told CNN International.
He described feeling the quake in his house in a suburb of the Indonesian capital.

Magnitude-4.2 earthquake hits South Korea's Jeju island
SEOUL, -- A magnitude-4.2 earthquake struck South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju on Saturday, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported. The earthquake erupted at 9:22 p.m. (1222 GMT) and left some residents and buildings in the island shaken, it said. There have been no reports of injuries or property damage in the earthquake so far, Yonhap quoted unnamed weather officials as saying. The quake is believed to have originated in the sea 78 km south of the island, South Korean weather officials said.
