Iranian clerical group says vote result "invalid"

TEHRAN (Reuters) – A pro-reform Iranian clerical group said on Sunday the outcome of last month's presidential vote was "invalid," even though Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has upheld the result.

In a sign of a deepening rift among Shi'ite clerics, the Assembly of Qom Seminary Scholars and Researchers also called for the release of Iranians arrested in protests after the hardline president was declared winner of the June 12 vote.

"Other candidates' complaints and strong evidence of vote-rigging were ignored ... peaceful protests by Iranians were violently oppressed ... dozens of Iranians were killed and hundreds were illegally arrested," said a statement published on the Assembly's website. "The outcome is invalid."

On the outside, this looks like another post about the elections and how they were rigged.

    On the inside, it's not.

Good way to look at it is this...In Iran, the Ayatollah is the Pope of that Country, and the clerics are his Cardinals.

Not very often you hear about a group of Cardinals going to the press to disapprove of something the Pope thinks is fine.

Anyways, that's what I found interesting about it...not the protest the past few weeks or that we knew the election was rigged from day one.

Good idea, it would solve two problems at once. We wouldn't have as many lawyers making life difficult here, and they would be tied up in red tape for decades. Pack em in like sardines.

The "duh" wasn't for you, personally. I see your point about the clerics. There must be a hell of a lot of infighting going on right now. Sounds like the clerics might be afraid of Ahmanutjob goading Israel into an attack.
