Looks like the normal summer weather settling in here. Hot & Humid, high
in the 90's with a chance of PM T-Storms. Is good!

TOTD: What kind of summer vacations do you enjoy? Beach, mountains, just stay home, searing desert etc.

Personally I like going to the Islands Mon be they the Bahamas or the Keys. Warm sunny beaches with beautiful water and a good book. Nice dinners followed by some Casino time if available!

TOTD: I usually just take long weekends in the summer. Our major vacations are spring and fall, and for the past few years we've been alternating foreign and domestic vacations.
2006: Western North Carolina, Russia/Scandinavia.
2007: Paris, Hudson River Valley.
2008: Central America, Outer Banks beach vacation.

TOTD: Our trip to DC last summer was very cool. However, driving through DC to our hotel (at least the beltway and the friggin' "alphabet" streets was nightmare. NO ONE can bitch about driving around Central Florida (especially the dreaded I-4) without doing that mess in DC first...

I'd love to visit the Keys again...soon...

Guess we'll just have to disagree. I don't like the Bahamas, think they're boring. The Keys are all right, but have been there a couple times. I'm not a casino person, too much smoke.

My idea of a vacation is driving through the West, breathing in that clear mountain air. I also love the "searing desert", love the cactus, love the trails around Tucson (but like the desert in the winter, not mid-August).

I'd like to return to Iceland, loved it there. It's remote, wild, beautiful, not like a beach ringed with condos. Blech.

Still in the process of discussing with SR the possibility of a trip to Europe with the "old buildings". I guess a history/English lit major and a former resident of Florida have different ideas about the ideal vacation. So we'll have to take turns. We've been to Florida this spring, so MY TURN! :D:D

I went to the gym after work yesterday. Today my legs and butt are screaming at me. Ow ow!

TOTD: Anywhere but here is my idea of a vacation, especially in the summer, when the temps are ungodly. I'm not picky.

I'm going to Las Vegas in late July for a few days. I know it will be just as hot as Phoenix, but it won't be here and that's what matters to me.

I also like to take day trips to northern Arizona for a change of scenery. Prescott is, without a doubt, my favorite city. A little higher elevation, somewhat cooler temps, lots of wooded areas to hike in, a "small-town" feel to...I love it.

Northern Italy is nice this time of year.Ivrea in the Poe Valley on the border of Italy,France,Switzerland with it's picturesque castles and mountains.A northern Italian tour starting in Rome and drive North through the lush Italian countryside stopping at old Winery's converted into restaurants is a good way to have some great Non Spaghetti Northern Italian food.

The food changes from pasta to beef and cheese the closer you get to Switzerland.Take a look at the blog link for pictures of some of the towns.I was in Ivrea on business for a month and stayed at a hotel that was originally part of an old castle on the edge of the mountains.When I opened my windows at night I could see the MatterHorn on one side and the entire Poe valley on the other as I sipped my after dinner courvoisier !

I had business in Paris and the airlines were having trouble with Aeroflot crashing all over Europe so I took the train from Torino to Paris through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and down the length of northern France to Paris !

I had provisions as it took most of the day to get to Paris.I had a large canvas bag with several loves of crusty Italian bread ,three different kinds of cheese,Salami,Prosciutto,two liters of country wine and a two liter bottle of Courvoisier and a few good books in English to read !

We've had rain showers the last couple of days and the lawn is very happy. We should have more of the same today with a high in the mid 80s and T-showers in the afternoon.

TOTD: The mountains or my own backyard. I have too many responsibilities right now to travel much. I need to be able to get back here in under 12 hours if I get a call.

Big rainstorm last night. Which of course means humid and muggy today. Blargh.

TOTD: I would be perfectly happy staying home and doing nothing. My wife, however, has other ideas, and she usually (always) wins. If I had a week off by myself, I would sit in a chair and read a few good books.
