About the same number, but every one is driving slower, and they are doing it in the fast lane. Which ercks the hell out of me. Drive slow, get in the slow lane.

I voted "about the same", which is how it seems around here.
I also vote to change LESS to FEWER, to make it gramatically correct. ;)

I've noticed traffic isn't quite as heavy as pre exorbitant gas prices. More people here are finally using the Metrolink. As a sales rep working in an area inaccessible to the metrolink stations, it's not a solution for me.
I find myself thinking twice before making spur of the moment shopping trips. Generally I'll purchase groceries and other things at places directly on my way home from work, vs going home first and then going shopping.
How much is gas in California? It just went up to $3.78 a gallon for regular here.

I stopped at a Shell gas station yesterday and Regular was $4.53 p/gallon. :eek: On the one hand I dont see a huge decrease in freeway traffic in rush hour but i am seeing less people at gas stations with the biggest decrease in poor areas. Our public transit sux0rs here in Ca. I think theres pretty much the same number of people driving but they are driving less miles.Originally Posted by stlouiewoman
And of course to nobodys surprise Democrat law makers are pushing increased taxes on gasoline. For supposedly being 'for the working class' the Dems never seem to get it that this sort of tax increase hurts poor people the most.

Sales of motorcycles are up and dealers are getting exactly what they want for them. Same with small used cars. More people in each car on the freeways. Fuel surcharges on the local fishing charters and daily charges on cruise ships.

Feels a bit less.
I took the new-to-me 911 out yesterday on a fun-run and it seemed to me that there was less traffic than before.

About the same here.
We did change our hourly employees to a 12 hour swing shift which means they only have to work 4 days per week when before they were working 5 or 6 to make the same hours.
We're also puuting a plan together where salary folks with work five 9 hour days one week and three 9 hour days and one 8 hour day the following week. It will be nice to have every other weekend as a 3 dayer.

Mr Smith and I have made changes...after totalling our Taurus on a deer last year, we bought a Toyota Yaris. We've gotten right at 40 mpg with it. :D
When prices kept climbing, we decided to park the van (the $1200 repair bill and the 250,000 miles helped with the decision), and bought a nice, used Ford Escort that gets about 33 mpg.
While this would seem to help, our actual budget for gas has not changed since last year, we spend almost exactly as much getting to and from work as we did, even though our average mileage has gone from 25 mpg to 35 mpg. :(
As far as other drivers, I have notice a few more going 55 instead of 65, but only a few...and they are typically either driving huge vans or...hybrids.
Most mornings, I'm doing my normal 70 mph and still getting passed by a dozen or more full-size pick-ups and SUVs.
I have noticed NO reduction in traffic. We have absolutely no mass transit out here, and the huge majority of people live quite a ways from work, so everyone is in exactly the same boat as we are...skimping on other things to keep the gas in the tank because going to work is required! :D
