Not one republican politician has disputed this fact. You want to know why Bush asked for 700 billion ? ....because the writing was on the wall, the economy was going to have a major problem, this is why Bush asked for 700 billion, and this is why Obama voted for it.

Even the republicans that voted against both stimulus bills admit there was a large financial problem in the making.

This disaster began in 1977. It escalated several times in the 1990's. Bush and and a number of Republicans in the House and Senate tried to sound a warning in the early 2000's but were shot down by Freddie and Fannie Democratic benefactors.
