' Why did a gay-rights activist stab her wife with a screwdriver 222 times?"

    lesbian murder/suicide, Boynton Beach

    SNIP
Jessica Kalish was a gregarious software executive who used to host AlterNet, a gay and lesbian radio talk show in Miami. Her wife, Carol, was a writer covering the presidential election for the Huffington Post. To outsiders, it seemed they were the embodiment of contemporary domestic bliss: two smart, professional women living in an immaculate house replete with screened-in pool, a cabana bathroom, and plenty of room for their two adopted racing greyhounds. Soon, though, all of South Florida learned the unsettling truth.
    ....................................
Just after 11 that night, a woman driving on Congress Avenue spotted Jessica's BMW sedan between two dumpsters, around the block from a police substation. The driver's-side window was smashed. There was blood splattered on the left side of the car. On the back tire. On the undercarriage. There was more blood ó and hair the color of Jessica's ó along the rear bumper. At the edge of the trunk. On the upholstery of both front seats.
    .....................................
And there, on the floorboard, stuffed headfirst beneath the back of the driver's seat, her legs bent awkwardly across the back seat, was the body of 56-year-old Jessica Kalish.

Lead detective Alfredo Martinez arrived within 20 minutes of the discovery. He knew immediately this was no indiscriminate robbery or random act of violence. "When I looked in the back seat, at first glance, you could automatically see that this was an emotionally driven crime," Martinez would recall. "Somebody was in a rage."

Interesting. The author sees this mess as a reason to promote both homosexual marriage and homosexual divorce but I don't. Plenty of women (and men) are killed by their spouses during the divorce process. Let's face it, if you are crazy enough to kill your shack-up, you're crazy enough to kill your spouse.

The plot thickens ."Latest update :

A 57-year-old woman from Boynton Beach, FL stabbed her lover 222 times with a Phillips-head screwdriver before killing herself. Burger apparently snapped after her breakup with Jessica Kalish, 56, who had met another woman. She had refused to take anti-depressants following the breakup, and she shot herself before police could question her about the crime (and her bizarre weapon choice). Burger was a sometimes contributor to the Huffington Postís OffTheBus project.

    Huffington Post Writer Murders Ex-Partner
According to police reports, Carol Anne Berger, a writer for the Huffington Post stabbed her former lover, Jessica Kalish, over 200 times with a screwdriver and then tried to hide the murder.

After killing Kalish, Berger reported her missing to the police, then fatally shot herself a day later.

Lt. Gary Chapman said Jessica Kalish, 56, a software executive, was found in the backseat of her BMW on Oct. 23. He also stated that Kalish had been stabbed with a Phillips-head screwdriver 220 times.

Berger and Kalish recently had hired an attorney to sell their house and split the revenue. Kalish had recently met another woman which is reportedly the motivation behind the murder.
Our thoughts and sympathy to the family of both.

If she,Kalish, had a black belt in karate how in hell did this other one beat the crap out of her with such ease and bounce her around inside the car and be able to stuff her head first under the drivers seat ?
    ..........................
This must have started outside of the car with Kalish head rammed through the window and then flung her against the side of the car .
    ....................................
If she ,Burger, were is a blind rage and had Super Human strength she might pull it off but her 'Husband ' should have been able to fight her off !

"Jessica spoke four languages, had a black belt in karate, and prided herself on being a tough, strong woman. She was tall and lean, with short, dark hair and eyes like tiny flames. She liked fine single-malt Scotch, expensive cigars, and smart, passionate women. She grew up in a quiet neighborhood in Queens, in a traditional Jewish home with both parents and a younger sister, Sibyl. As a child, Jessica would disassemble kitchen appliances and put them back together. She had an intense fascination, her family would later say, with the way the world fit together. She knew very young that she liked women, and at 17, she left her parents' house in Forest Hills to live a bohemian life in Greenwich Village.
    ........................................
"It was the 1960s, and Jessica epitomized the new kind of fearless lesbian," Sibyl Kalish remembers. "She wasn't really butch, and she wasn't a fem. Jessica always defied any label anyone wanted to put on her, but everyone around her fell in love with her energy and her desire to get the most out of every moment in life."
    .......................................
Jessica earned a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was one of the first women enrolled in the esteemed engineering department. To pay the bills, she lied about her age and began working as a bartender in a lesbian bar and driving a taxi at night.

Police: Ex-lover killed woman in rage in Boynton Beach
    snip

Examining the body, detectives absorbed what had been done to her. Stab wounds were clustered around the back of her head and stitched across her back and arms and face. Most were between an inch and an inch-and-a-half deep. A blow to Kalish's neck probably killed her, investigators determined.
    snip
The couple had married in Massachussetts in 2005 but since separated and Kalish had met another woman.
    ..............................
As investigators studied the case, several telltale signs, including the ferocity and personal nature of the attack, pointed to Burger, they said.
    .................................
But before they could question her, Burger walked out into her back yard, pressed a gun up under her chin and pulled the trigger, police said. Detectives found her body there last Thursday but couldn't locate a suicide note.

I think it goes to show how truly unstable these people are.
Stand up for what is right, even if you have to stand alone.
