"Some of the old original films of Downtown San Francisco before the bridge !"

The big news in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend is the closure of the Bay Bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland for five days for a key graft in its multi-year seismic retrofit. At a height of 150 feet over Yerba Buena Island, where the two spans of the bridge connect in a tunnel, a 300-foot double-decker piece of bridge is going to be cut out and removed, and a new one moved into place that will eventually connect up the new and improved East Span.

Put in more than one. Those things are dirt cheap these days .

I saw a lash up with a number of cams scattered around a farm inside and out of the barn and several out buildings tied into a wireless router .

The system provided good security after dark with proximity sensors with lights and remote motion CCD cameras .

Cracked beam may delay bridge opening

    Sunday, September 06, 2009 | 12:18 AM

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Caltrans has announced a huge blow in its effort to reopen the Bay Bridge on time. Inspectors have discovered what they say is a significant crack in a support beam. They say the bridge cannot reopen until it is repaired.

After completing the monumental challenge of moving aside the old span and precisely fitting the new temporary span into place Saturday, Caltrans announced a major potential setback.

"While we were inspecting the east span of the Bay Bridge, a crack was discovered in one of the I-bars on the eastern side up high," said Caltrans spokesperson Bart Ney.

In a completely separate area of the bridge, inspectors found a crack in one of the I-bars of the bridge's support structure, about 100 feet above the pavement.

"It was determined that this is a significant crack and it needs to be dealt with immediately, and we are dealing with it immediately," said Ney. "The crack is significant enough to have closed the bridge on its own."

Man I'm glad I don't have to commute to San Francisco for any reason. That's going to be utter hell till they get it fixed.
