It was a real crappy rainy day today, so I did some hearty German food! These were damn good, and served it with some potato salad and sweet and sour red cabbage.
This is the actual recipe, I added some black forest ham to each and I forgot to use onion!
Ingredients
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
8 each Top round steak 1/4" thick pounded down to 1/8"
Salt & pepper to taste
8 slices Bacon
Dill pickles cut into slivers
carrots cut into slivers
1 large Onion cut into wedges
3 tablespoon Oil
1 Tbsp tomato paste
3 cup Beef stock
1/3 cup corn starch
1/2 cup Water
Pre-haet oven to 250
Instructions1. Lightly spread mustard on each slice of steak; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place 1 slice ham, 1 slice bacon, pickle, carrot and few onion wedges on each slice; roll up and tie up.
2. Heat oil in skillet & brown the wrapped steaks on all sides for about a minute or so on each side untill browned and place in an oven tray and keep warm while making the sauce.
3.In the same pan add the tomato paste and cook for 30 seconds, add the stock and scrape up the browned bits in the pan. Cook down by half.
Combine corn starch and water until smooth; stir into broth. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly.
Time to eat!
Get everybody ready
assemble
Brown them up
And on the plate! With a cold beer, of course!
