Posting calorie counts on chain restaurant menus doesn't change eating habits of poorest New Yorkers

Calorie counts on fast-food restaurant menus such as McDonalds', above, aren't influencing low-income diners to make healthier choices, according to one study.

A new study found that even after the city ordered chain restaurants to post calories on their menus, some diners in low-income areas apparently made worse food choices than before.

Researchers collected about 1,200 receipts from customers at McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken and found they purchased an average of 846 calories - compared to 825 before the menus were labeled.
