Gary, IN is only #11. My hometown is slipping. Gary used to consistently rank in the top three. There is work to be done. :p

On a serious note, I was back in Gary in Dec. '05. My brother's funeral was in Lowell(about 40 minutes south), so I decided to take my wife on a mini-tour of my old stomping grounds. Her response was, "So this is what a war zone looks like." Abandoned and decaying cars and buildings seemed to be everywhere. What a sad site for a once booming city.

They're knocking down many of the condemned houses and trying to develope north st louis, which is very scary. I won't drive through certain areas. My mom, when she was alive, used to beg me to drive her by her old neighborhood. I had to gently tell her that she'd need a tank, escorted by the military, to go there. I don't know if she believed me, but sadly it was true.
Tell us about East St Louis ?

I remember driving through Gary in the late 70s, when we'd take family trips from Grand Rapids to Chicago. We'd take the Skyway. It would stink so badly in Gary, I couldn't believe people actually lived there. It was worse than Detroit at that time.

The funny thing about the smell . . . growing up there you never notice it. When I returned to the area in '05(after a 17 year absence) I had the same reaction you did.

It's right there in the data. Your menfolk are not doing enough raping.

Either the women of Detroit are giving it away or the dudes are all gay.

Well, you know they all went gay in the 90's. :D

Gays get the crap beat out of them in Detroit. They move to Oakland County (Ferndale, mostly) as soon as they can afford to.

I think the women are giving it away. Women don't always define rape the way I define it, and some have an amazing capacity to view a rape as something else the next morning. I blame General Hospital for the whole "he loved me so much he couldn't control himself" mentality.
