The announcement by Alabama Rep. Parker Griffith that he is switching to the Republican Party is just the latest warning sign that the Democratic Party -- my lifelong political home -- has a critical decision to make: Either we plot a more moderate, centrist course or risk electoral disaster not just in the upcoming midterms but in many elections to come.

Rep. Griffith's decision makes him the fifth centrist Democrat to either switch parties or announce plans to retire rather than stand for reelection in 2010. These announcements are a sharp reversal from the progress the Democratic Party made starting in 2006 and continuing in 2008, when it reestablished itself as the nation's majority party for the first time in more than a decade. That success happened for one major reason: Democrats made inroads in geographies and constituencies that had trended Republican since the 1960s. In these two elections, a majority of independents and a sizable number of moderate Republicans joined the traditional Democratic base to sweep Democrats to commanding majorities in Congress and to bring Barack Obama to the White House.

But now they face a grim political fate. On the one hand, centrist Democrats are being vilified by left-wing bloggers, pundits and partisan news outlets for not being sufficiently liberal, "true" Democrats. On the other, Republicans are pounding them for their association with a party that seems to be advancing an agenda far to the left of most voters.

The political dangers of this situation could not be clearer.

And you know what? The Far Left kooks on Huff, KOS, and DU will keep it right up. Just look at DU over the last week or so. As I knew it would be, it's filled with hate filled stories on how the country isn't "Progressive" enough for them and how they hate this country. The American dream is gone, an illusion.

All Politicians would do well to do some reading on Huff Post, KOS, and DU. You want to stay away from these idiots like the plague in real life. Other than that, soak them for their money and then laugh at them when you don't deliver on your far lefty promises. :D

What the story glosses over is why dems are falling out of favor with the public. 1) their policies are making the economy worse and 2)they are enacting legislation that the people don't want and will really put the squeeze on the economy. If they were to correct this two issues that might be looking a better results in 2010 and 2012

What astounds me is that people like Harry "The Rat" Reid continue down this path of country and self destruction in the face of evidence that it is bad for them and the country. What possible motivation do they have? Well, believe it or not, they put party over common sense and duty. This country is not what they want and will not stop until we rename it as the People's Republic of the Americas or the Union Served by Socialist Reform (USSR). They don't respect the rule of law if it doesn't suit their goals. They wipe their nasty butts with OUR Constitution. I say "ours" because if it was theirs they wouldn't be shredding it daily.

We can't even get a good dictator. Other countries get strong men like Chavez (as stupid as he is) or Castro or Glorious Leader. We get for our first dictator an effete, limp wristed embarrassment who brings to the table a list of accomplishments an inch long. Wait! He WAS a community organizer. That alone was sufficient to propel him above all others in the DIMWITocRAT Party. What does that tell you about the rest of the RATS?

On the positive note, O Blah Blah can read a pretty mean teleprompter. Granted he makes George Bush sound like Winston Churchill when speaking extemporaneously. Another positive the Dictator in Chief brings to the table is a never ending supply of money. He has figured out how to fund every single pet (DUMBOcRAT) project out there by printing more money. Why for Heavens sake (can we still say that?) didn't those retarded GOPers discover that?

I wonder where all this human waste will fall when they get booted out of the office they have been disgracing for so many years? I'm sure we'll all be able to trace their movements in the post-public service life by the stench they emit.
