    St. Louis, MO
    4:16 am CST, Wed., Jan. 6, 2010

    ... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY...
    THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ST LOUIS HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
    * SNOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA EARLY THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH DAYBREAK THURSDAY.
    * TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED... WITH ISOLATED HIGHER TOTALS.
    * A NORTHWEST WIND WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH ON THURSDAY AS AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH.
    * THE ACCUMULATION OF SNOW ON ROADWAYS COMBINED WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT. STRONG AND GUSTY WINDS WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THE SNOW STOPS FALLING. THE STRONG WIND WILL ALSO RESULT IN DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILLS... WITH VALUES FALLING TO BETWEEN 10 AND 20 BELOW ZERO BY THURSDAY NIGHT... AND UNDER THESE CONDITIONS FROSTBITE CAN OCCUR TO EXPOSED SKIN IN LESS THAN 30 MINUTES.
    Fun Stuff!!!! :mad::D
    May the FORCE be with you!

    Another 1-3 inches expected in the DC area this evening. We haven't had much chance to melt out of the last bit we got.

    We had 10" over the past two days in Hampshire. Parts of the UK will have -2F temperatures overnight.

    Is it really true that your old people are burning books to keep warm? I saw that headline but figured it was bogus. :D

    We had freezing rain yesterday and it is 12 degrees now. I don't know if I could break through the frozen ground with the dozer today, The frost was three inches deep and deeper in some spots yesterday and before you could do any shaping you had to bust the crust off. That makes for awfully lumpy dirt!
