Reds to Trade Griffey Jr. to White Sox, Reports

    By Bob Bensch

July 31 (Bloomberg) -- The Cincinnati Reds agreed to trade Ken Griffey Jr. to the Chicago White Sox, pending the outfielder's approval, reported on its Web site.

The 13-time All-Star has the right to block the move under Major League Baseball rules because he has over 10 years of service, five with the same club. He will decide this morning whether to accept the trade, Fox said, citing a person with knowledge of the situation it didn't identify.

Griffey, 36, is batting .245 this season with 15 home runs and 53 runs batted in. He became the sixth major-league player with 600 career homers on June 10.

Teams have until 4 p.m. New York time to trade players without them having to clear waivers.

Another interesting trade deadline deal. I'm not sure this is a spectacular move for the Sox, but I suppose they had to do something.
