Would House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow House Democratic leaders try to cram the Senate version of Obamacare through the House without actually having a recorded vote on the bill?

Not only is the answer yes, they would, they have figured out a way to do it, according to National Journal's Congress Daily:

"House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

"Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.

"Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. 'Once the CBO gives us the score, we'll spring right on it,' she said."

How are they going to record the yeas and Nays if this goes forward? I'd love to know what the Democrats are playing at here.

Someone here made the point earlier that most of the statists in Congress would be willing to be voted out in order to advance some of the loftier aims of socialism. I thought it was a long shot, but I'm not so sure anymore...

That's what I"m thinking as well. How can you pass one bill, that says another bill that was never voted on.......is assumed to be passed without a vote?

So be it then. Two can play that game.

I bring to the floor of the congress of the conservative underground, fantasy bill #666. This bill, if passed, will assume that all Democratic Senators and Representatives will in fact be voted out of office in November 2010, and their anticipated departure will go into effect upon passage of this bill.

Ammendment #1- It is also assumed that the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives will, in the future, continue to display itself as useless. It shall be disbanded upon passage of this bill based on that assumption.

Amendment #2 - it is assumed that the "No pony left behind act of 2010" (the yet to be written bill that will guarantee the right of every 6 year old girl to actually own a pony) shall pass congress. It's for the children.

Amendment #3- In concurrence with amendment #2, if said girl wishes for a unicorn, congress will allot funds for embryonic stem cell research to genetically engineer the mythical unicorn. It is unAmerican for science to stand in the way of the dreams of a child.

FB 666 is now open to co sponsors and proposed amendments.

Be warned that if you oppose this FB 666, naked Rahm Emmanuel will be paying you a visit.

Slaughter House Surprise: Simply 'Deem' Health Bill Passed after Voting on Fix Bill

Democrats struggling to find enough votes to pass the Senate bill in the House of Representatives could bypass the problem by simply "deeming" the health bill passed after voting for a separate compromise measure, rather than actually voting on it, according to House Rules Committee chair Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY).

Congress Daily reported Wednesday that Rep. Slaughter is considering preparing a rule that would deem the abortion-expanding Senate health care bill passed once the House approves a package of corrections that would make changes to the Senate version.

The idea, which is reportedly being eyed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, received backing by House Progressive Caucus co-chair Lynn Woolsey (D., Calif.).

“I don’t need to see my colleagues vote for the Senate bill in the House. We don’t like the Senate bill. Why should we be forced to do that?” Woolsey told ABC's Top Line Thursday. “But what we need to know, before any Senate bill is passed, that we have enough of the fixes that we’ve asked for, that we will be satisfied with the final product as a beginning for health care [reform].”

Woolsey noted that she "would be OK with" the House voting to deem the bill passed, rather than actually voting on the measure.

The notion was not offered without strong criticism from GOP lawmakers.

Sen. Orrin Hatch called the move "about as unconstitutional as anything I've ever seen."

“I want to ensure there is an expedited review process to have the Supreme Court look at this,” Hatch told Health Care News. “To pass a $2.5 trillion bill without the House even voting on it, by using manipulative parliamentary gimmicks, is just not the right thing to do.”

Dave Schnittinger condemned "the Slaughter Solution" on GOP House Minority Leader John Boehner's blog as, "The twisted scheme by which Democratic leaders plan to bend the rules to ram President Obama’s massive health care legislation through Congress."

Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) emphasized that Slaughter's scheme was merely "window-dressing" on what was essentially still a vote for the vastly pro-abortion Senate health care bill.
