Texas ed board vote reflects far-right influences

AUSTIN, Texas — A far-right faction of the Texas State Board of Education succeeded Friday in injecting conservative ideals into social studies, history and economics lessons that will be taught to millions of students for the next decade.

Teachers in Texas will be required to cover the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation's Founding Fathers, but not highlight the philosophical rationale for the separation of church and state. Curriculum standards also will describe the U.S. government as a "constitutional republic," rather than "democratic," and students will be required to study the decline in value of the U.S. dollar, including the abandonment of the gold standard.

"We have been about conservatism versus liberalism," said Democrat Mavis Knight of Dallas, explaining her vote against the standards. "We have manipulated strands to insert what we want it to be in the document, regardless as to whether or not it's appropriate."

What are the thoughts on the issues with Jefferson? He was one of the most important founding fathers, but is seems their going to push him into the back seat because of his non-governmental papers. That seem right to you folks?

Look at the results we got the last election. Look at how so many people actually believe there is a separation of Church and State.

Look at how many deny the nature and origin of our rights. They have been "educated" to believe that.

Look at how guns are portrayed.

Look at the ACLU and its origins and stated intent at its founding

Look at the the connections the marxists had in our education system, our news and entertainment media.

We are a Constitutional Republic. There is no separation of church and state in the practical sense(hell, the author admits that it's only a philosophy). And the decline of the dollar can be traced to our removal from the gold standard. The fact that these people have issues with this is astounding. I mean, the author shows their idiocy by calling the conservatives on the BOE a "faction". Faction? Are you frigging serious? These people have turned hypocrisy into an art form. They're the ones who keep harping about having an open mind and such but they are the most closed minded people on 2 feet. It's their worldview or no worldview. While conservatives, even though we don't believe in their worldview, don't see a problem with looking at things from both sides.

it is hard to find Liberal that are open minded as they claim, but there are there. but most Conservatives WILL listen to both sides before making a decision.

I love how there are even those on the Right that think there is a separation of Church and State, if that was the case, there wouldn't be prayer before each session of Congress, Supreme Court, etc. what there is, is the Constitution bars an OFFICIAL Religion of the State. nothing bars the two from working together.

The extremes of both parties are close-minded. However, teaching children the truth about our history is NOT extreme. Distorting, twisting or outright changing history to fit ones own worldview is extreme. That's the bottom line.
