Fascinating! Thanks for posting those, namvet.Can anyone tell me the purpose of the sort of step concave forming of the concrete around the front of this gun bunker? Is it some kind of sound reducing design to muffle the percussion when the gun fires?

He's right. Stepped embrasures are designed to deflect rounds in a manner that minimizes ricochets.
(Mr. Snaps is quite the WWII buff. ;))
