BOSTON (AP) - A state senator was arrested Tuesday on charges he attempted to sexually touch a woman in a park, just weeks after prosecutors said there wasn't enough evidence to press charges when another woman claimed he assaulted her.
Lowell Police said Sen. James Marzilli was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the city's downtown area after trying to flee. The charges include disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, attempting to commit a crime, assault and battery, and obstruction of justice.
Marzilli, 50, was scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Wednesday.
Corey Welford, a spokesman for Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone, said Marzilli is accused of approaching a woman who was sitting on a park bench, making an "inappropriate comment" and attempting to touch her in a sexual manner, which she forcibly resisted.
Must just be a coincidence that another woman makes the same allegations against Sen. James Marzilli in the span of a just a few weeks. Hope they have enough evidence this time.
