Original messageThings that Keep You Awake at Night
Until 2000, I just had the usual concerns, the occasional anxiety/panic attacks, that any
man in his late thirties experienced: Is my wife still "into me" after seven years of marriage? Are my son and two daughters okay? Will they be okay in the future? Just your average, entirely boring set of worries.
Then I saw five so-called "Justices" throw the Presidency to a man who was clearly not qualified, and who had obviously NOT been elected!
Then, nine months later, September 11. You know, I initially supported
Bush in his attack on Afghanistan, that is, until I belatedly realized that "bringing bin Laden to justice" and "fighting the war on terror" was merely a pretext for Messrs. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. to impose their own, twisted visions of "national security" upon the world, and upon us,
ably assisted by---I keep coming back to that word again---our "Justice" Department!
Now, bouts of insomnia, such as the one I'm experiencing tonight, are commoplace: Will the President resist the Cheneys and the Kristols and pull ALL of our boys & girls out of Iraq AS PER THE SCHEDULE AGREED TO BY BUSH? We he remain true to his commitment to begin the drawdown of forces in Afghanistan in the middle of next year despite
all the chickenhawks and laptop warriors urging him not to? And what of Iran? Will he have the testicular fortitude enabling him to Just Say No to the neocons
Will we, as a country, again be as stupid as we were in November of '04? Will we idiotically place a Sarah Youbetcha, Batshit Bachmann or Devil's Daughter Liz in the White House?
And, if we do, how the fuck do I move myself and my family to Australia?????
