If nominated, a question about marriage would be appropriate.

I agree. And if she answers to the effect that gay marriages should be recognized - I'm opposed to her.
Stand up for what is right, even if you have to stand alone.

Personally, I'd like to see him pick former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer. He was mayor from 1993-2001.
Prior to being mayor, Dennis Archer was a Michigan Supreme Court justice and served on the bench locally. He's a liberal, but he's more of a moderate than most Detroit Democrats. Things were getting better in the city when he was mayor.

I didn't realize there was a marital requirement for the Court.

Nope. Just a "no fag" requirement.
In most sports, cold-cocking an opposing player repeatedly in the face with a series of gigantic Slovakian uppercuts would get you a multi-game suspension without pay.

In hockey, it means you have to sit in the penalty box for five minutes.

I wasn't aware there was a requirement on that, either.

You are confused because you are too stupid to realize that the confirmation hearing is about how the nominee stands on different issues. Gay marriage could become one of those issues before the court. Got it!

    Unwritten rule in some administrations.
