Voter Arrested After Not Showing Photo ID
Last Edited: Thursday, 07 Aug 2008, 4:43 PM CDT

Thousands went to the polls on Tuesday and showed their IDs before they voted. An Independence man who refused to show an ID with his picture and signature ended up in jail, even though showing a photo ID is not required by law.
Missouri doesn't have a law mandating voters present a photo ID to vote. In fact, it was ruled unconstitutional in 2006.
When Phil Lindsey went to vote he said he brought his voter ID card, a utility bill and a bank statement as his identification. But he said election workers would not allow him vote because they wanted a picture id with his signature on it.
"I handed him my voter ID card and he said that's not enough, I handed him my bank statement and he said, 'I want something with your signature on it and if you don't provide it you must leave,'" he said.
Lindsey said he was upset because he knows by law he doesn't need a photo ID. According to the Missouri Secretary of State's website, a voter ID card, a bank statement and a utility bill are all acceptable forms of ID for voting.
Charlene Davis from the election board said judges have to learn a lot in their two hour training session and they didn't realize that a bank statement was an acceptable form of ID even though it's right on the list.
"Let's face it most people don't walk in with a bank statement in their back pocket for identification to vote," Charlene Davis, the Republican Director of Elections, said.
Davis said election judges called the Election Board for clarification but by that time Lindsey was screaming and pounding on the desk, so they called police.
Police said Lindsey was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Lindsey said going to jail to proves his point was worth it because election judges don't have a right to make up their own rules. Lindsey was eventually allowed to vote at the election office after he got out of jail.
funny, i never saw that in the original report on du...

08-08-2008, 11:41 AMCharlene Davis, one of the directors of the Jackson County Election Board, said Lindsey was disruptive at the polling place -- "screaming" at election judges.
"They were scared to death," Davis said. "They're all over 70...one gal thought she was having a heart attack. I do think they acted properly. They were confused over the identification, but they called.
"He was disruptive at the poll, and that's a violation of the law."
Big bad Phil... what a putz. I wish one of those 70 year olds would have put a cane up side his head. Democraticunderground -- my God how can there be so many insane lunatics with internet access? What a complete douche this guy is.
Of course the little hate mongers at the KOS,Democratic underground and Tony's all have to chime in with their nonsense.
The only reason the left thinks voter fraud is a non-issue is because they are the ones involved in voter fraud and padding their votes.
Because he showed up pecking for a fight. It's pretty obvious from his story that he went there wanting to have this confrontation. It could have easily been remedied many other ways but instead he chose to peck a fight with a bunch of old people and act like an ass.
It's right up Keith in P.V.'s alley though I'm sure he enjoys terrorizing old people also to make him feel like a real man.He was being a jerk and went to jail for it. Whether he was voting legal or not acting like an ass and throwing a fit and trying to be threatening will get a person arrested. He wasn't arrested for sticking up for his rights he was arrested for being an asshole.
I served as an election supervisor for this election.. The people who serve work 15 1/2 hour days, 5Am - 7:30Pm , have 2 hours training, provide their own coffee and food, and make about a $100 for it. They do this out of a sense of public duty. At the end of the day, everyone is mentally exhaused and do not want some "douchebag" making a statement.
Furthermore,I have found the Election Board staff very nice and are diligent in the preserving the right to vote and maintaining the integrity of the process. This guy and his son were looking for a fight and rightfully were arrested for being Assholes! Maybe he should volunteer to be a judge and be part of the solution instead of the problem. Frankly, I support Photo Voter ID. Contrary to liberal zealots, it does not discriminate. A photo ID is required to open a bank account, procur a loan, cash a check, and purchase cigarettes and alcohol. State ID's are readily available and easy to obtain. Only those interested in fraud oppose photo ID's. When voting, most people, like me, provide a driver's license, but there are those who provide their election cards.
I always wonder why DUers never seem to work the polls?
I do, it's a long day but rewarding.

My guess this nothing more then another Moonbat doing their " Drama Queen " act ( these are the same folks who throw a fit trying to get free stuff at Wal - Mart) and someone stood up to them and the Moonbat got pissed off ( for some stupid reason they go through life sh*tting all over people then expect those same people to kiss their ass).CU's Paranormal Expert.

Misunderstanding, scuffle at voting site lead to arrest (galloglas)
A confrontation over voter identification requirements Tuesday at an Independence precinct resulted in the arrest of a man who says he was denied the right to vote, a claim election board officials deny.
Phil Lindsey said when he and his son Eamonn showed up to East Alton Community of Christ Church, 16999 E. 23rd St., Tuesday morning to cast their votes in the primary election they presented election judges with precinct-issued voter cards as proof they were registered voters.
After being told by judges that the cards were not valid forms of identification to cast a vote and that they needed to show photo I.D., Lindsey said he produced a bank statement, which, shown in combination with the precinct card, is valid according to the secretary of state’s office.
“They did not have the legal right to ask for a driver’s license,” Lindsey said. “I said, ‘you have got to be kidding me.’ You have to know the law.”
“I think it is a shame when people come in and try to intimidate election judges,” she said. “If he had shown the bank statement (in the beginning) he would have been fine.”
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Davis said, “but the thing is, this is not his first time doing this. He was not being disenfranchised or denied a right to vote. He simply would not listen to logic.”
Anyone surprised this wasn't his first time showing his @ss? BTW the DUmmies have flooded the comments section at the news link, defending him as some innocent victim. As if.
