Aside from serving them in soup, I think that is the way they are used. Some people toss them with the "better" kind of cheeses. I don't know if actual Germans would use garlic (although, why not?) but definitely they are cooked with onions and butter.

I've had them more than once in homemade soup where they sort of stand-in for dumplings. ;)

At my grandmother's church in St Louis, which had been a totally German speaking church at one time, they always served those noodles separately, not as part of a soup. They always had the noodles, green beans, mashed potatoes and wurst.

Think I'll buy one of those Amish cook books and see if they have some good recipes. SR likes them so much that we now have 8 bags of them in the pantry. I only use half a bag for a meal, so I'd best come up with some other recipes. :D

Tonight it will be Bazillion Calorie Cream Cheese Casserole posted a long, long time ago by neone (remember her?). I am forever in her debt for posting that because it is one of the BEST comfort food casseroles I've ever had. I'm looking forward to it!
