Original message American Psychosis. What happens to a society that cannot distinguish
    between reality and illusion??

    By Chris Hedges...

It is the cult of self that is killing the United States.

This cult has within it the classic traits of psychopaths: superficial charm, grandiosity and self-importance; a need for constant stimulation; a penchant for lying, deception and manipulation; and the incapacity for remorse or guilt.

You're right, they did describe themselves to a 'T ; but they forgot to throw in their NPD.

The guy is partly right - an increasingly dependent, ignorant culture is being stage-managed by politics and business.

However, you can only be stage-managed if you have no value system of your own. While the author probably assumes that a strong America is a welfare America, his observations about popular culture and superficiality ring true.

The dependent culture we've been rich enough to provide has absolutely caused a societal crisis. We have more "wanters" than "givers". We have a population that seriously believes that "feeling good" is the same as "being good". We've fostered a belief that life is pain-free and absolutely satisfying as long as you aren't being held down, repressed, forced into uncreative work, or sucking up the normal adult duties.

Now, we have to pay the piper and nobody can.

That's a pretty good summation, especially the whole expectation that life is pain-free and such. That's exactly why people call lawyers and start suing or divorcing when things just aren't as perfect as they thought they'd be.

    So basically, liberals.
