Episcopal church: Deposed San Joaquin (CA) diocese bishop tried to transfer/steal church ownership titles
"This COE deposed bishop wanted to transfer ownership title of his church to another conservative Diocese and they want all of the collection plate money !"
FRESNO, Calif. — The Episcopal Church has expanded its lawsuit against a deposed bishop who led a secession movement prompted by the church's ordination of women and gays.
Church officials say in court documents that John-David Schofield attempted to transfer titles to at least three parishes worth several million dollars to an outside holding company he formed in April. A spokeswoman for the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin had erroneously reported late Tuesday that Schofield had transferred church money to outside accounts.
National church leaders removed Schofield as the head of the Fresno-based diocese in March, after he led parishioners to align themselves with the conservative Province of the Southern Cone, an Argentina-based member of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
