Also, a lot of the Iraqi "snipers" were just regular troops firing AKs from hide positions. What we consider a sniper, an elite rifleman with specific training and specialized weapons, were few and far between in the Iraqi Army under Saddam. most third world countries use SKS's, they are cheaper than AK's
Uses the same 7.62x39 round that the AK uses, 10 round internal magazine loaded by stripper clips. Fairly accurate, cheap, ammo is easy to find.
