I wonder if Fannie and Freddie were once considered 'prudent'. Probably so, I'd guess, and that's part of the disaster. There are so many funds, trusts and the like that have just been pummeled.

Turns out - at least as of today - that they all would have done better in gold. Although currently trending down, gold has moved from $1420 to $1593 so far this year. I remember some months back one of the Texas Universities bought a large amount of gold. Maybe they'll come out all right, but it seems like they bought at the wrong time, if I remember correctly.

All depends upon when you got the idea, sometimes.:)

I still don't understand its value other than shared delusion.

That's what everyone who doesn't own something says about it.
"The efforts of the government alone will never be enough. In the end the people must choose and the people must help themselves" ~ JFK; from his famous inauguration speech (What Democrats sounded like before today's neo-Liberals hijacked that party)

Doesn't the entire economy operate on the concept of a shared delusion?
In most sports, cold-cocking an opposing player repeatedly in the face with a series of gigantic Slovakian uppercuts would get you a multi-game suspension without pay.

In hockey, it means you have to sit in the penalty box for five minutes.
