I liked this, the Harvard Handwringer.
For all of Obama's political skills and oratory, he just can't stop himself from coming across like a Harvard Handwringer. It was on display tonite at the Saddleback Forum. Rick Warren's question about dealing with evil in the world showed Obama's tendency to naval-gaze and fret. Here are the quotes:
Obama's point is the US has perpetrated alot of evil. Nice. Now see how McCain handles the question:Question to Obama: "Does evil exist, and if it does, do we ignore it, do we negotiate with it, do we contain it, do we defeat it?"
Obama: "... a lot of evil has been perpetrated, uh, based on the claim that we were trying to confront evil."
Obama's answer shows that at his core, he is a Harvard elitist who is suspicious of the US. Liberals and Europeans will be happy with Obama's fretting, nuanced approach.Question to McCain: "Does evil exist, and if so, should we ignore it, negotiate with it, contain it, or defeat it?"
McCain: "Defeat it."
Do Americans want a Handwringer for President? I don't think so.
