Here at the port of Long Beach/Los Angeles ( one of the largest and most busy on the planet), like all main terminals, in my country, that might handle supertankers and such, we have a wonderful organization called the USCG that is beginning to employ this particular mechanism with Savannah River National Laboratory’s detection devices, while said vessels are still off shore, up to 150 miles. If the ship is adequately inspected at the port of demarcation, using the same technology and security systems - uniformly - the chances of anything nuclear getting through are relatively slim.
