Yemen's civil aviation authorities say some bodies have been recovered from the site of a Yemenia Air plane crash in the Indian Ocean off the African coast. But authorities said they "cannot say if there are survivors" among the 153 people who were on board the 310-300 Airbus, which crashed into choppy seas as it tried to land in bad weather on the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros.

Their website announces the crash on its ticker and (bottom) a Yemenia Air Airbus 310. The A310 is believed to be the model of the plane which crashed into the Indian Ocean today. Photo: Aleks B.

Yemenia Air is Yemen's state carrier. The Comoros covers three small volcanic islands, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli, in the Mozambique channel, 300 kilometres north-west of Madagascar and a similar distance east of the African mainland.

Two French military planes and a French ship left the Indian Ocean islands of Mayotte and Reunion to search for the Yemenia aircraft, which was carrying nationals from France and Comoros.http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/worl...ml?from=smh_ft
