Interesting look into the very-near future.
Race is a social construct, and as such it's very real within our social reality.Nope, it's not the new must-have booties or the latest rad stroller. The latest baby trend could actually alter the makeup of the U.S. population.
For the first time in history, more minority babies may be born in the United States than white babies, the New York Daily News reports. The research, released days before U.S. census forms are set to arrive at 120 million homes, suggests this year's minority baby boom could be what spurs our country into a minority majority during the next 40 years, according to the newspaper.
Historically, the United States has always been a very mixed-society, with intermingling of cultures being the quintessential American Melting Pot. However, although we've always been a mixed race-nation, we've also always been a majority-white population (well, except at the very beginning, but back then non-whites didn't count as real people).
This white-majority has always been reflected in our government, in our laws, and in our culture.
Noone knows what the future holds, but a minority-majority population seems to be inevitable.
