Breaking: Plane Bombs: 24 More Packages Are Seized
Twenty four more suspect packages have been seized in Yemen after two parcel bombs were discovered on planes in Britain and DubaiNews of the seizures in the Yemen capital San'a came as officials in London met for an emergency terror meeting to assess the threat to the UK.
Speaking after the meeting Home Secretary Theresa May said the device found in the UK was "viable".
But she added that the threat level would not be increased from "severe" - highly likely - to "imminent".
There would be an immediate stop to unaccompanied air freight from Yemen, the Home Secretary added.
The UK officials gathered after devices were discovered on planes in Dubai and at East Midlands Airport.
The device in Dubai contained explosives and an electrical circuit linked to a mobile phone SIM card, Dubai police said.It was prepared in a "professional manner" and bore the hallmarks of terror groups such as al Qaida, the police statement added.
The package, which was intercepted en route to the US, contained explosive entaerythritol trinitrate (PETN) in a printer and cartridge.It is the same powerful explosive used in the plot to blow up a plane over Detroit last Christmas.
