I am hosting Christmas Dinner. I was thinking of going to Publix or Target and purchasing one of their turkey dinners . Supposedly, the turkey (12-16 pounders) is cooked and you just have to warm it up. Also comes with the usual sides and an apple pie.
I can always make the rice stuffing on the side.
Anyone ever try this??
I haven't but a BF has done this and is doing it this year. By all accounts, he was pleased with the effect last year. His wife had health problems that were pretty severe and doing the whole thing was just too much for her last year. They liked it well enough to do it again although she's much better now.
That says something about how good those dinners are or about how bad her cooking is normally. :D
Yes and it's no doubt made in China and it taste like an old cardboard box.Better off to make your own the old-fashioned way.You could try the new fast fool proof method .
Popcorn Stuffing
(sufficient for a 6-pound bird)
3 cups soft bread crumbs
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
2 onions chopped finely
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons chopped parsley
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
2 eggs
3 sausages
1 cup popping corn
And when its done:
* Skin will be a golden brown colour
* Temperature button (thermometer) will have popped
* Backside of the bird will have been blown open
* Skewers will be protruding from the wall opposite the oven
* Oven door will be lying on the kitchen floor
I've never had a deep fried turkey but it's my understanding that the #1 cause for fires associated with frying a turkey is because people are stupid enough to put a frozen turkey into hot oil. I heard that you must completely thaw the turkey before submerging it into the oil.
I don't have the guts to attempt a deep fried turkey, I am too accident prone.
