Wis. man accused of shooting TV over Palin dance

MADISON, Wis. – A rural Wisconsin man apparently enraged by Bristol Palin's "Dancing with the Stars" routine blasted his television with a shotgun, leading to an all-night standoff with a SWAT team, investigators said.

Steven Cowan, 67, was arrested Tuesday morning after officers coaxed him out of his house in Vermont, a farming community near Madison. Cowan, who is accused of threatening his wife with the gun after destroying the television, appeared in a Madison courtroom Wednesday on a charge of second-degree reckless endangerment. His bail was set at $1,500.

Cowan's attorney at the hearing, Jonas Bednarek, declined to comment.

Cowan's wife, Janice Cowan, told investigators that her husband suffers from bipolar disorder and had threatened her life in the past.

According to court documents, Janice Cowan said her husband came home Monday from the bar and had a beer with dinner before they settled down to watch "Dancing with the Stars."

When Palin, the 20-year-old daughter of tea party favorite Sarah Palin, began her routine, Cowan jumped up and began swearing, saying something like "The (expletive) politics." His wife said he was upset that a political figure's daughter was dancing on TV even though he felt she didn't have talent.

For the bail money he could have had a large flat screen and watch her shimmy her fat butt in Hi Def.
People who loose it like that are a fun to watch when they 'melt down ' if knife draw is locked and the shotgun shells are missing .Did he watch Sarah giving her guided tour of Alaska I wonder ?

MADISON, Wis. (CBS/AP) Brandy broke down in tears. Dancer Derek Hough was slackjawed. Judge Bruno Tonioli leapt to his feet and urged audience members to vote.

But the most violent reaction of all to Tuesday night's "Dancing With the Stars" results show came from a 67-year-old Wisconsin man, so enraged over Bristol Palin's performance that he blasted his TV with a shotgun, leading to an overnight standoff with a SWAT team.

A Dane County Sheriff's detective says in court documents that Steven Cowan, of the town of Vermont, believed Palin was not a good dancer and was only kept on the show because of her famous mother.

The singer Brandy, a consistently high scorer who was favored to win the dancing competition on ABC, was eliminated Tuesday night, clearing the way for Palin, whose scores have been in the basement all season, to join actors Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey in next week's finals.

Police say Cowan, who was was later charged second-degree reckless endangerment, loaded his shotgun and blasted the TV before turning the gun on his wife, who escaped.

Tactical officers surrounded the home and managed to talk Cowan, who faces to up to 10 years in prison if convicted, out of his house.

Who cares? There are important things to worry about than who wins some stupid dance contest. I don't even watch these shows, the only reality show I like is Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab.

Exactly. Why are we focused on this when there's a royal wedding in the works?

Seriously, anybody who is nutty enough to shoot out his TV over this and then have a standoff with SWAT is nutty enough to do some serious political violence. But, since the left is all about peace, sweetness and light. it's only the right that tries to violently suppress opposition thought, at least according to the left, clearly either this guy didn't get the memo or the paradigm is, shall we say, inaccurate?
