    Hunter Sorry For Scare

A Wyoming hunter who accidentally caused a security concern at the Grand Hyatt hotel Saturday said heís sorry for the problems he caused and didnít know the Democratic National Convention was in town.

When Joseph Calanchini walked into the Grand Hyatt hotel with 2 rifles and 2 pistols Saturday around 4:00 pm, Denver Police evacuated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from the hotel until they arrested Calanchini and made sure it was safe for Pelosi to return.

ďI didnít even know the DNC was in town.

I donít watch the news,Ē said Joseph Calanchini from the Denver City Jail where...

    snip

He says he had just picked up his rifles from the Sportsmanís Warehouse and had them in a locked gun case when he checked in at the Grand Hyatt. The clerk checking him in noticed the rifle case and called security.

ďIím amazed. Itís not like they were illegal weapons, they were all registered to me,Ē said Calanchini. ďIt was bad timing.Ē

Police say Calanchini had permits for the rifles, but did not have concealed permits to carry two pistols that were found in his luggage. Calanchini says he forgot they were in there.

"How are they a danger concealed and locked up in his luggage !"

He was charged with unlawfully carry weapons, a misdemeanor. Calanchini is being held on $10,000 ($10,000For a misdemeano ?)

Two rifles in a case. Two handguns in the luggage.

    What's the problem?

I wonder if the handguns in the luggage really violate the statute? I mean, we're not talking about an airliner here.

Pelosi was probably jealous that all the attention was off her and her book that she's been shilling around the airwaves. She just wanted to stir up some sympathy time/air time. ha ha ha

Actually it's on many media sources. I read it in the Denver Post.

Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley said 29-year-old Joseph Calanchini of Pinedale, Wyo., faces a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon after police officers at the Grand Hyatt hotel noticed him carrying a rifle-type case while checking in. Calanchini did not have a concealed weapons permit, said Lance Clem, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

A hotel is private property and it is the perogative of the owners as to when firearms are allowed in. If he defied their wishes they had every right to call the cops on him.

Good question. I'll bet it depends on the state. Whenever I travel, I check the laws for whatever state I am going to or through.

The NRA has a useful site for this.
